My Learning Curve With Online Play!
« Thread started on: Jul 28th, 2009, 11:56pm »

I dunno if what I say in this thread will help anyone, or if anyone cares..lol. I just taken from my own experiences now with 60-80 games under my belt with a online connection and figured It might help!!

1: make sure both parties have the same car!

2: I've only played on the original version, 1.00. Dunno if 1.22 works!

3: Allow enough time to get both players ready. What we found out is, the player thats not "hosting" will lag out when they change there car. Likewise, if the "host" player changes his car or track!! SO please wait 30 seconds for the game to figure it out, read it, and set it up, before clicking "race"!!

4: Close any open windows. It makes a BIG difference, even with my two computers so close together!!

5: Mostly, be patient!! Even with playing against my other computer. 7 out of 10 tries would fail! Last race we ran tonight, using the "Blue, The End Imp" vs the "Red, The End Imp", took 3 tries to load and reboot both the game and computers to get one successful run.

If anyone has questions I hope these help, or just post in the thread. I will do my best to answer with what I have learned!

Thanks, Mike

The only extra I have in my game is that Football track, and it's in all my machines. I have no other cars or tracks, I don't want to get too attached to the game if I can't play it in multiplayer mode. I have tried hosting in every option possible, and connecting in every option possible. All ports are totally open with no firewalls, no antivirus programs, nothing at all running.
Here's some things you could do to try to help us out, since we know that your game works online:

1). Post your "config" file on here. There may be variants in yours that I(or we) don't have that we can try.

2). Post your "VIDEO(CFG file)" on here. I don't know if it would help, but toying around with it may work.

3). Post your "Game(text document)" file that is in your options folder.

I'm hoping this will get it up and running so that we can all connect and somehow have a "series" or "league" out of all of this. I'm checking in to other demo Derby games, and if i find one that is half decent and will work in multiplayer mode I'll be more than happy to make it into a downloadable ISO and post a link so you guys can get it.

but.......hopefully we can get THIS game working right so I don't have to go through that drama!

Thanks guys!

Thanks Green for posting that. I have zero experience with multiplayer, so that info is helpful.

NOSsz: I've tried shutting my firewalls off, and opening all ports necessary, but still have had no luck. Not only for this game but other games. I have narrowed my problems down to my computer (or more specifically, my router). My computer could never connect to other computers over the internet. I don't know if this is just an issue with me or are many others having the same problem.

I've also toyed around with the idea of a league and I really like the idea. Many other people seem to like it too.

If you would still like me to send those files you're looking for I can.

Thanks guys for helping trying to figure out how to make multiplayer work and work better!

572bb: I can get you fixed up with connecting to others online. If you can get into your router's programming, it's a simple matter of setting your router on DMZ mode for the PC that you want to be able to connect online with. DMZ mode will allow ONE single PC on your network to have ALL ports totally opened. Yeah, people bitch and gripe about "viruses" and all that, but I never have any problems and even if i did, I do disk backups about once every two weeks just in case I have to reformat or something. If you can't get into your router, Hook up with me via Yahoo and I'll walk you through it.
As far as your request about the DemoDerby 1.00(without the patch), I am currently uploading it to my file server right now. Late tomorrow night or early Friday night I will post the link to the download in this forum somewhere, you and everyone else on here are more than welcome to it. I may want a car or track made for me sometime(hint hint) lol.
Ultimate Demolition Derby is sort of a cheesy game, but I know it plays well online. I got the demo version, as soon as I get the full version's crack or keygen I'll post it too if you guys want. Having a hard time finding a crack or keygen for it, and it's not really worth the $20 they want for the full version, but hell, if it's a portal for us to slam things around online I'll keep picking around at it!

About the router's programming... Don't you just type your IP address into the web browser? Then type in your password for the internet? Trouble is I dont know this password I'll have to contact my ISP

Thanks for hosting the non-patched version of the game. what kind of cars or tracks do you like?

Few other points I want to make, or clear up my exsisting statments!!

1: When I say make sure both parties have the same cars, I mean if your running a downloaded or modified car, the other person at least HAS to have that car as well. Otherwise it will crash the race.

2: Don't be suprised if MOST of your races consist of the compacts! Seems around 70% of our races had hatchbacks in them. Some were all hatchbacks and little 2-dr compacts. kinda sucks

3: We have successfully ran every car we have downloaded except 2, in online play! I have ran both car's on single player, and it works fine. I know some car's say they might not work unless your a "Derby King" Well, in my other room, that game has not been beat. Every car has worked, but these two, That could be why....

4: You can have a MAX of 8 cars in a online derby. I tried to click higher and it wont. I do however switch the AI drivers to hard level, and change the countout to 60 seconds.

5: There is NO FEATURE!! It's a one heat run!! So you can pretty much run ALL OUT!!! Good way to REALLY test cars

Hope I didnt ramble on to long!! Once again, I hope some of this is usefull!!

Thanks, Mike

stock tracks like dixboro hold 8 cars max, so the game would have issues with anymore. And the more cars, the lower the framerate would be. especially for slow computers.

So you can't run two unique add-on cars?

Only if both players have the same car.

If you run the pre-ran lincoln, then the person you play has to at least have it downloaded and installed on there game too.

They dont have to run it against you, but they must have it!

oh, ok. well that makes sense. of course

I've played Papyrus' Nascar 2k2 and 2k3 season games and when the other player doesnt have the car you have installed, it shows up as one of the game's generic cars. that keeps it from crashing at least. like it would for this game

That would be cool if it did that!

We tried it with the Backwards Basher. I had it on this computer, not on the other. I wanted to run it, he was gonna run one of the 60ies Imp's. When it went to the load screen, it would kick us out, everytime. We figured it was just the usual issues we had once in awhile. After about 7-8 tries, I went ahead and downloaded it on the other computer. Next attempt it worked perfectly!!
